HISTORIC CANADIAN RACE CARS AT "CPT RACING EXPERIENCE"
Cars driven by Jacques Villeneuve Sr. and Ron Fellows will be on display

February 07, 2008

Three historic Canadian race vehicles have been confirmed for display at the upcoming CPT Racing Experience, March 15 and 16 at the London Convention Centre. At the event will be a Champ Car once driven by Canadian racing legend, Jacques Villeneuve Sr.; the Indy car Scott Goodyear drove to a second-place finish in the 1992 Indy 500; and Ron Fellows’ Player’s GM Challenge Series Camaro from the late 1980’s. All three vehicles will be on hand as part of CPT Entertainment’s partnership with the Canadian Motorsport Hall of Fame.

Villeneuve Sr. (uncle to 1997 Formula One champion, Jacques Villeneuve Jr, and brother of the late racing legend, Gilles Villeneuve) was inducted into the Canadian Motorsport Hall of Fame in 2001. Perhaps known as much for his accomplishments in snowmobile racing as his success in automobile road racing, Villeneuve enjoyed a varied career that included brief stints in everything from Formula One to powerboat racing.

Villeneuve helped pave the way for many other racers from this country by becoming the first Canadian ever to win a CART (Champ Car Series) race. The car on display at the CPT Racing Experience will be the machine that Villeneuve drove to that historic win, at Road America in Wisconsin in August of 1985. By winning that race, Villeneuve put his name in impressive company. Other drivers to win in the same series that season included Mario Andretti, Danny Sullivan, Al Unser Jr., Emerson Fittipaldi, Rick Mears, Johnny Rutherford and Bobby Rahal.

Ron Fellows is a versatile driver who has shown over the years that he can be competitive in a wide variety of race cars and settings. Having begun his professional career in the Player’s GM Challenge Series, Ron quickly took on a range of opportunities in various sports car series and all top three levels of NASCAR. Fellows was the first non-American to win a NASCAR Busch Series event.

At the CPT Racing Experience, guests will see the Camaro that Fellows drove in the late 1980’s as he rose to prominence in the Player’s GM Challenge Series.

Scott Goodyear is another name Canadian race fans should recognize. Indy car fans will remember the thrilling finish in the 1992 Indianapolis 500, when Al Unser Jr. won the race by an eyelash – a mere 0.043 seconds over Goodyear. The very car that Goodyear drove across the finish line nearly side-by-side with Unser Jr. at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway will be at the London Convention Centre for the CPT Racing Experience.

Goodyear enjoyed a successful racing career, known best for his years in the Champ Car (CART) Series and later in the Indy Racing League (IRL).

The three-car display will be the focal point of a partnership between the Canadian Motorsport Hall of Fame and CPT Entertainment Inc., through the CPT Racing Experience. More information about the Canadian Motorsport Hall of Fame is available online at www.cmhf.ca.
